Camera Source had outgrown self-hosted Magento. They needed a partner that could deliver a complex migration without losing any of the 59,000+ customers or 82,000+ historical orders, while building a proper B2B dealer experience natively on Shopify. The wishlist was specific. A unified B2C and B2B storefront. Lower operational overhead. A faster site. Native B2B functionality without expensive custom modules. And a migration that preserved hard-won SEO equity.

Challenges on Magento

Camera Source provided us with the following issues that would need to be overcome during the migration:

• High operational costs from self-hosted Magento infrastructure
• Limited native B2B functionality, requiring heavy custom extensions
• Slow site speed that no longer met modern customer expectations
• Difficulty integrating third-party apps and rolling out new functionality
• A slow, unintuitive process for updating content and page templates
• Increasing long-term TCO from upgrade cycles, security patches, and server management

Shero recommended Shopify for its lower total cost of ownership, mature native B2B features (company catalogs, payment terms, magic-link login), and an OS 2.0 theming system that would let the Camera Source team launch campaigns and update content without dev time. Shopify's hosted infrastructure also removed the security-patching and server-management burden Magento had been imposing year on year.

Shero migrated more than 59,000 customers and 82,000+ historical orders from Magento to Shopify with no data loss. We built a complete dealer portal on Shopify's native B2B features, including five custom price catalogs mapped from legacy Magento customer groups, NET payment terms, company structures, PO number and PO file uploads at checkout, and Quotify-powered quote requests. A custom, API-driven Vehicle Fitment Search hosted on Vercel removed a platform limitation and gave customers a faster path to the right product. A sleek Dual Login System lets B2C customers use a traditional password while B2B dealers authenticate via passwordless magic link.

A migration at this scale needed every bit of historical equity preserved, so we built a comprehensive 301 redirect strategy to absorb Magento's multiple-URLs-per-page structure cleanly. Screaming Frog crawls of both legacy and new URLs validated that metadata, content, and internal linking transferred accurately. We optimized the XML sitemap, configured canonical and pagination tags, implemented extensive structured data (Organization, Product, FAQ, Breadcrumb, Blog, Website), and migrated GA4, GTM data layers, and pixel tracking so reporting continued without disruption from day one.
