For more than three decades, Benchmade has been known for producing high-quality knives for everyday carry, hunting, rescue, and outdoor use. Launched on Magento Commerce Cloud in 2018, the brand partnered with Shero to tap into the surge in outdoor consumer demand and scale their online presence.

The Ask

Benchmade wanted to maximize US revenue and expand into the Canadian market, with long-term goals of large-scale domestic and international growth. It was critical that brand integrity was maintained throughout, given the company's devoted following. They needed enhancements to what was working and a redesign of what was not.

Finding the Solution

After an in-depth discovery process, Shero identified multiple opportunities to scale the business, enhance customer experience, and increase recurring revenue. Benchmade's existing Adobe Commerce Cloud store hosted on AWS was already well-positioned, with AWS Auto Scaling allowing the team to redirect resources toward SEO, global market expansion, and brand growth rather than infrastructure management.

Bringing it to Life

Shero delivered a revamped homepage, enhanced product pages and descriptions, upgraded site search via Klevu, subscription services, custom shipping options, and back-in-stock alerts. A standout feature was a custom product customizer allowing customers to preview different variants of the same product, such as a knife in multiple colors, directly on the product page.

Overcoming Challenges

Scaling internationally while maintaining brand integrity required careful planning across SEO, CX, and infrastructure. Leveraging AWS Auto Scaling freed up budget and resources that were redirected toward growth initiatives rather than platform maintenance.

The project went live in October 2021, just before Black Friday. During Thanksgiving weekend through Cyber Monday, Benchmade saw a massive lift compared to the previous year. Revenue increased by more than 100%, transactions grew by 68%, and average order value increased by 20%.
