Fabric Mart /

Fabric Mart is a premier online retailer specializing in high-quality fabrics, offering a vast range of materials from silk to cotton to suit various sewing projects. Established as a go-to resource for sewing enthusiasts, small business owners, and professional designers, Fabric Mart offers not only fabrics but also related items like matching threads and notions. With a history of customer loyalty and growing demand, the company recognized the need to upgrade its digital presence to better serve its customers.

The Ask /

Fabric Mart had been using Xcart for many years but found the platform increasingly limiting as their business scaled. They required a more modern, flexible, and cost-effective platform to support both B2B and B2C operations. Specifically, they needed:

  • A better customer experience (CX) for users purchasing fabrics by the yard, including fractional quantities.

  • Easier third-party integrations for marketing automation, ADA compliance, shipping, and customer feedback.

  • Lower maintenance costs and streamlined product management.

  • Features that would allow members-only content for exclusive products and deals.

  • Custom functionality to ensure smooth internal operations, including product label printing and quantity controls.

Finding the Solution /

Replatforming Fabric Mart from Xcart to Shopify would not only modernize their online presence but also deliver the comprehensive digital transformation they needed to enhance customer experience, streamline operations, and scale their business. This move would empower Fabric Mart with greater flexibility, improved product management, seamless third-party integrations, and custom features that are essential for catering to both retail and wholesale customers in a competitive, evolving marketplace.

Bringing it to Life /

Shero carefully designed custom templates and web pages that matched Fabric Mart’s brand identity while enhancing usability. Through rigorous testing and collaboration, the transition was seamless, ensuring no downtime for Fabric Mart’s loyal customers.

However, there were challenges. Shopify’s default functionality did not support selling fabric in fractional quantities, which is essential for Fabric Mart’s customers. Shero developed a custom feature allowing customers to purchase fabric in fractional yards, thus preserving the company’s unique selling proposition. Other custom features included:

  • Matching thread suggestions for fabrics.

  • Custom product label printing with local printer integration enabled easy product label printing, streamlining inventory, and order management on the backend.

  • A maximum purchasable quantity control for bulk orders.

  • Exclusive members-only content, giving VIP customers access to special fabrics and deals that foster customer loyalty and repeat purchases.
